This video conference was hosted by Mr. Honda and Supratarka from Japan. The countries involved in this conference were Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand. Students from Japan came from Okinawa prefecture
from different schools, from Taiwan are students from Tainan area (Sindong Junior High School), and from HSBM School, Penang, Malaysia. For Thailand, students who joined this conference are grades 8 and 9 of the
Comprehensive English Program (CEP).
The conference started with the introduction of each school, country, culture and tourist attractions in their places. Thailand introduced Assumption College Lampang, its brief information, tourist attractions in Lampang such
as horse carriages, ceramic industry, temples, culture, etc. This was followed by the exchange of ideas about the following topics:
Thailand’s Topic: The topic that CEP students have selected to discuss or talk about was “How does social media affect you as a student or teenagers these days?”
Japan’s Topic: Inequality in our society (gender gap, poverty gap) Is there anything you think not equal in your society? What are they?
Taiwan’s topic: “How do you prepare for your examinations?”
Malaysia’s topic: Challenges, problems faced by teenagers or young adults (stress, generation gap, bullying, peer pressure, etc.) What are the challenges/problems faced by teenagers in your country?
Students had an enjoyable time exchanging ideas and opinions especially when they were already free to talk about the popular things in their countries these days. This made them feel more comfortable and they were able
to talk about music, favorite band, cartoons and school rules about smart phones. The conference was a good opportunity for them to interact with their foreign peers and exchange ideas and opinions regarding issues in their generation.
